The Kitchen: Weighing Symbols

Even routine work in the kitchen is shaped by a system of codes and norms passed on from generation to generation. While traditional Jewish cuisine is prepared according to Talmudic food laws, modern cooking is based on standardized weights and measures governed by secular conventions. Weights, cookbooks, and calendars relate the history of these norms. In addition, every visitor to this room is automatically weighed.
